Yesterday was my mums birthday so my fam came to visit me!
After birthday cake and presents at the lakeside we headed into town as I had booked a table at Baresca for tapas.
I had only been here once before for a friends birthday where we had a set menu. I was looking forward to choosing from the menu – though this turned out to be difficult as there was so much and it all sounded amazing!
We all chose a few things we fancied and shared them round mainly.
My big brother ordered, mackerel escabeche salsa verde, pickled vegetables, mayonnaise, crostini + chargrilled octopus & chorizo potato, mint, spring onion, cucumber, piquillo pepper sauce + patatas bravas served with aïoli.
My little brother ordered a chorizo, halloumi, tomato, mushroom & rosemary flatbread + halloumi fritters tempura batter, guindilla mayonnaise + buttermilk fried squid lime & aïoli
My dad ordered flatbread & dips hummus, carrot & toasted cumin + fillet of hake mussel, bacon, leek & Basque cider cream sauce + moroccan chicken & chickpea stew apricots, sultanas, yoghurt, feta, red onion & coriander
I ordered miso salmon cucumber, sesame & lime salad + butternut squash, feta & raisin empanadillas + patatas bravas served with aïoli
My mum ordered Spanish meats selection with fennel & capers + goats cheese which they didn’t have so she changed for some cheese croquettes which aren’t quite the same but we had so much food to share it didn’t matter.
We shared it all and tried what we fancied!
The chicken and chickpea stew was so so so nice. So was the miso salmon – it was very miso! The carrot and cumin dip which came with the flatbread was really good i loooove cumin. The butternut squash empanadillas were so good too but such a treat being pretty fried. I tried some octopus but i wasn’t sure of the texture! I have only been buying fish to eat at uni so the meats were also such a treat.
Lovely lunch, lovely food and lovely day. Cheers!
